What is the highest debt-to-income ratio I can have with student loans?
Debt-to-income limits depend on the loan program rather than one number that applies to every buyer: conventional, FHA and VA loans each set their own maximum, and individual lenders can apply stricter overlays on top of those guidelines. Student loans factor in based on the actual required payment or, for income-driven repayment plans, a calculated payment the lender determines using the loan program's specific rules. A mortgage lender can run your actual numbers and tell you where you land, since this varies buyer to buyer.
