What happens if there's no will and multiple family members want different things?

Without a will, Georgia's intestacy law determines who legally inherits the property, and those heirs then own it jointly, which means they generally all have to agree before it can be sold. An administrator often needs to be appointed through probate court to handle the estate when no executor was named, adding a step most people don't expect. When heirs disagree on what to do with the home, mediation or one heir buying out the others usually resolves it faster than letting the disagreement stall the estate.
