What does a home inspector check?

A general home inspection covers the roof, foundation, electrical system, plumbing, HVAC and structural components, plus a visual check for water damage, pest activity and safety hazards throughout the home. It is a visual, non-invasive review, so an inspector will not cut into walls or move heavy furniture to look behind it. Specialty tests like radon, termite or sewer scope inspections are separate add-ons you request if you want them. Ask your inspector exactly what is and is not included before the appointment.
