Checking whether your deed is safe means periodically searching your own name against county property records through the GSCCCA to confirm no unauthorized deed or lien has been filed against your home. Some counties also offer a free property fraud alert service that notifies you when a document gets recorded under your name. Catching an unauthorized filing early, and reporting it to your closing attorney or the county clerk immediately, is what actually limits the damage.
