Do I have to be selling my home to get a property tax review?
Requesting a property tax review does not require selling your home, since Georgia homeowners can challenge their county's assessed value through the local board of assessors or board of equalization, typically within a window after the annual assessment notice goes out. Assessed value in Georgia is set at 40 percent of fair market value, so a successful challenge lowers that base number and the tax bill calculated from it. Your county tax assessor's office handles the review process. Joel Boss can provide comparable sales data to support a review.
